the US Police State

Although it's been obvious to many that the US media is biased why does this surprise many Americans? The New York Times article, "Behind TV Analysts, Pentagon’s Hidden Hand":

Hidden behind the appearance of objectivity, though is a Pentagon information apparatus that has used those analysts in a campaign to generate favorable news coverage of the administration's wartime performance...

Records and interviews show how the Bush administration has used it's control over access and information in an effort to transform the analysts into a kind of media Trojan horse...

A few expressed regret for participating in what they regarded as an effort to dupe the American public with propaganda dressed as independent military analysis.

The really scary thing is that I actually think President Bush actually believes what he says. But I don't think that excuses the rest of the American public.

Isn't this "revelation" five years too late?! Here are a couple of people who did make timely comments:

One standout is Phil Donahue, who was fired because MSNBC couldn't get him to toe the line in the lead up to the Iraq invasion. Here is an excerpt from a radio interview of Harry Belafonte on KFMB San Diego that he played on one of his last shows:

HARRY BELAFONTE: There is an old saying in the days of slavery, there were those slaves who lived on the plantation, and there were those slaves who live lived in the house. You got the privilege of living in the house if you served the master to exactly the way the master intended to have you serve him. That gave you privilege. Colin Powell’s permitted to come into the house of the master, as long as he would serve the master according to the master’s dictates. And when Colin Powell dares to suggest something other than what the master wants to hear, he will be turned back out to pasture.

And who does Belafonte label "the greatest terrorist in the world"?!!
